The Simplest Way to Solve a 3x3 Rubik's Cube

Rubiky - The Simplest Way to Solve a 3x3 Rubik's Cube

The Rubik’s Cube is one of the most popular and challenging puzzles in the world. It has 6 faces, each with 9 stickers of one of 6 colors: white, yellow, red, green, blue, and orange. The goal is to restore the cube to its original state, where each face has only one color.

You might think that solving the Rubik’s Cube is very difficult or even impossible, but it is actually not that hard once you learn some basic techniques and algorithms. In this Guide, I will show you how to solve the Rubik’s Cube using the beginner’s method, which is the easiest and most common way to solve the cube.

You can practice anywhere and at any time with my online Rubik’s cube simulator.

This guide is in a way a dynamic version of the rubiks.com ebook, feel free to consult it.

Solve Layer one

Step 1: Create a Daisy

Begin by holding your rubik's cube with the Yello Center piece on UP face.

Action 1

Look at the top layer to locate the EDGE pieces that have a white tile. Leave them where there are.

Action 2

Look at the middle and bottom layer, locate and move EDGE pieces that have a white tile into the top layer.

0 / 1
Run the Algorithm F'
or
0 / 1
Run the Algorithm R
or
0 / 2
Run the Algorithm U' F'
or
0 / 2
Run the Algorithm F2
or
0 / 3
Run the Algorithm U' F2

Action 3

Sometimes, when you place the edge in the top layer, the white tile is not on the UP face and it needs to be flipped.

To flip the edge, so that the white tile is on the UP face, hold your rubik's cube so the edge that neeeds to be flipped is on the RIGHT face, and follow the Algorithm: R' U F'

0 / 3

When your rubik's cube has a daisy that look like bellow, you can move to Step 2.

Step 2: The White Cross

Begin by holding your rubik's cube with the daisy on the UP face. Look at the FRONT face of the rubik's cube.

Action 1

If the FRONT tile of the UP edge piece match the CENTER tile color, go to Action 2, else, turn the UP face until it does.

0 / 1

Action 2

Turn the FRONT face two times so that the WHITE tile is now on the DOWN face, follow the Algorithm F2

0 / 2

Repeat Action 1 & 2 for each WHITE edge until all 4 edge been corectly placed.

When your rubik's cube has a white cross with the center and edge pieces matched, like bellow, you can move to Step 3

Step 3: Solve The WHITE Corners

Begin by holding your rubik's cube with the white cross on the UP face.

CORRECT PLACEMENT

The correct placement of a corner piece is between center pieces with the same colors likes bellow.

this is correct
not
0 / 3
this is not correct
follow the Algorithm to move it into the bottom layer: R' D' R

Action 1

Locate a corner piece with a WHITE tile in the bottom layer.

If your corner piece is in one of these positions, then go to Action 2.

or
or

Action 2

If the corner is not well placed (like bellow), rotate the DOWN face (with Algrithm D) until the corner is between the two matching colored center tiles.

0 / 2

To change the WHITE tile from facing DOWN, to facing FRONT, hold your rubik's cube with the corner on the RIGHT face and follow the Algorithm: F D' F' D2

0 / 5

Action 3

Now, hold your rubik's cube so the WHITE tile of the located corner is in the FRONT face and follow the Algorithm to place it correctly

0 / 4
If the corner is on the LEFT, Run: D L D' L'
or
0 / 4
If the corner is on the RIGHT, Run: D' R' D R

Action 4

Repeat Actions 1-3 until all white corner pierces are in the correct positions. Then, you are done.

Solve The Middle Layer

Flip your rubik's cube over so the completed WHITE face is the DOWN face.

Action 1

Chose a FRONT face, rotate the UP face to create a vertical line matching one of the scenes bellow

or
or
or
or
or
or
or

If you can not make a vertical line to match a case above, you will need to swap an edge from the UP face with an edge already in the middle layer.

Look at the MIDDLE layer to locate a mismatched edge that doesn't have a yellow tile, hold your rubik's cube so the mismatched edge in the middle layer is on the RIGHT face. Then follow the Algorithm U R U' R' U' F' U F to move it into the UP layer

0 / 8

Action 2

Hold your rubik's cube so the vertical matched line is in the FRONT face and follow the Algorithm

0 / 8
If you are moving the edge pice to the left, Run U' L' U L U F U' F'
or
0 / 8
If you are moving the edge pice to the left, Run U R U' R' U' F' U F

Action 3

Continue Actions 1-2 above until all MIDDLE layer pieces are in correct positions.
When your rubik's cube look like this, you can move to solve the third layer

Solve The Third Layer

Step 1: Make The Yellow Cross

Holding your rubik's cube to one of the case bellow, focus on the YELLOW edges on the UP face only.
Then Follow the Algorithm F U R U' R' F'

0 / 6
or
0 / 6
or
0 / 6

If the YELLOW cross is not formed yet, rematch your rubik's cube in one of the obove cases and follow the Algorithm until it did.
When your rubik's cube look like this, you can move to Next Step

Step 2: Orient The Corners

Action 1

Hold your rubik's cube so the UP face match one of the case bellow.

Then Follow the Algorithm R U R' U R U2 R'

0 / 8
or
0 / 8
or
0 / 8
or
0 / 8
or
0 / 8

Notice that the RIGHT face turns in opposite directions every other time and the up face always turns clockwise.

Action 2

If you do not have all yellow tile on the UP face, you will need to rematch and follow the Algorithm. (You may need to do this multiple times.)
When your rubik's cube has all the YELLOW on the UP face like bellow, move to Step 3.

Step 3: Positione The Yellow Corners

Twist the UP face until two corners are in the correct location. you'll know it is in the correct location if the colored tile match the center colors like bellow.

Action 1

Hold your rubik's cube so it match one of the scenes here. Then follow the Algorithm R' F R' B2 R F' R' B2 R2 U'

0 / 13
or
0 / 13
or
0 / 13
or
0 / 13
or
0 / 13
or
0 / 13

Action 2

If your rubik's cube look like bellow, continue to the final Step. Else, rematch your rubik's cube to one of the case in Action 1 and repeat the Algorithm.

Step 4: Position The Yellow Edges

Hold your rubik's cube so the solved face is the BACK face, and the Yellow face is the UP face.

If no face is solved, it doesn't matter which face is in the back.

  • If the unsolved edge need to move from Front to the RIGHT, follow the Algorithm F2 U' L R' F2 L' R U' F2

  • If the unsolved edge need to move from Front to the LEFT, follow the Algorithm F2 U L R' F2 L' R U F2

0 / 12
Move To The RIGHT F2 U' L R' F2 L' R U' F2
or
0 / 12
Move To The LEFT F2 U L R' F2 L' R U F2
or
0 / 12
Move To The RIGHT F2 U' L R' F2 L' R U' F2
or
0 / 12
Move To The LEFT F2 U L R' F2 L' R U F2

If your rubik's cube does not look like bellow, rematch one of the above case an follow the Algorithm, you may need to do it up to 3 times.

But if your rubik's cube look like bellow, then CONGRATULATION!! You have just solved the Rubik's Cube!
